STD

Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), also known as sexually transmitted infections (STIs), are infections that are primarily spread through sexual contact, including vaginal, anal, and oral sex. Common STDs include chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, herpes, and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). Many STDs can be asymptomatic, meaning individuals may not show symptoms yet can still transmit the infection to others, making regular screening and testing essential for sexually active individuals. Early detection and treatment are critical, as untreated STDs can lead to serious health complications, including infertility and increased susceptibility to other infections. Preventive measures, such as consistent condom use and vaccination (e.g., for HPV), play a crucial role in reducing the transmission of STDs and promoting sexual health. Comprehensive sexual education and open communication about sexual health are also vital for prevention and early intervention.
